Personal History – Francis Walsh

Published in Personal History

My story comes from my mother who was told this by her mother my grandmother. During the war of independence my grandmother was only a baby she lived through many raids in her small house in conemara her mother my great grandmother supported the I.R.A at the time so she helped hide guns and sometimes delivered messages and things like that. This involved my grandmother because she was used in the hiding of the guns when the black and tans came to the house to search for guns they used to put my grandmother to sleep and put the guns under her bed. So when the black and tan solders searched they did not disturb the bed because she was only a harmless baby so the guns were never found.
