Roger Casement’s landing and arrest at Banna Strand has assured Kerry a place in the narrative (and song) of the 1916 Rising. The county was equally prominent in the War of Independence and in the Civil War, which was particularly bitter in the county. But what was happening before 1916? Was Kerry always a bastion of republicanism (or of Gaelic football)? What was the level of support for the Irish Parliamentary Party or British Army recruitment?
