Published in 20th Century Social Perspectives, 20th-century / Contemporary History, Issue 1 (Spring 2001), Letters, Letters, Volume 9

Sir,—I am looking for information in relation to the headscarf worn byIrish women from 1900 to the year 2000. I am eager to hear from countrywomen who wore or still wear a headscarf or have memories or oldphotographs of loved ones wearing the headscarf. I am also interestedto hear the various ways in which they were worn e.g. tied under thechin or tied at the nape of the neck, etc.. When and where did theypurchase their first one? How many did they have? And lastly, why didthey wear them? To keep warm, to look feminine or, while working on thefarm etc.. All replies greatly appreciated.
