St Patrick statue mark II

Efforts are under way in County Meath to have a new statue of StPatrick installed on the Hill of Tara. The original statue was removedlast year by the Office of Public Works for refurbishment but was foundto have deteriorated beyond repair. Rathfeigh Historical Society hasacted as secretary of a Tara Committee in negotiations with the OPWwith regard to the installation of a new statue. The Tara Committee hasrecently requested a meeting with the Minister for Arts, Culture andthe Gaeltacht to discuss in detail his agreement to install a newstatue of the patron saint. Rathfeigh Historical Society are alsoconsidering the possibility of inaugurating an event on the Hill ofTara, possibly in association with Slane Historical Society, to markthis year’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations. Meanwhile the society arestill looking for any information regarding the installation of theorigional statue. They believe it probably was installed in 1895 tocommemorate the centenary of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth.
