The Department of History, University of Aberdeen, announces a majorconference, History at the margins: Scottish and internationalperspectives on women from 29 June to 1 July 1996, which will examinethe experience of women and women’s history in geographically‘peripheral’ areas of Europe such as Scotland, Ireland, Spain andScandinavia. Speakers include: Ida Bloom (University of Bergin) oncomparative aspects of women and welfare in Ireland, Scotland andNorway; Grey Osterud (Radcliffe College, Harvard) on thehistoriographical implications of research into the lives of farmwomen: Mary O’Dowd (Queen’s University, Belfast) on the experience ofwomen in colonial Ireland.
