Collins and Dalton—mark II?

Published in 20th-century / Contemporary History, Issue 4 (Winter 1995), Letters, Letters, Revolutionary Period 1912-23, Volume 3

Sir,—I was one of the Irish soldiers who took part in the ceremonial transfer of Cork Harbour defences from British to Irish armed forces on 11 July1938. When Chamberlain asked Eamonn de Valera when he would like that transfer to take place, Dev replied, ‘11 July, the seventeenth anniversary of the Truce, 1921’. I was one of the gunners who took over Fort Carlisle that day. Two of our four officers were Comdt. Daniel Joseph Collins and Arthur E. Dalton. They resembled Michael Collins and Emmet Dalton. Were they related to them? Can any History Ireland readers shed light on the matter? Yours etc.,
