J.C. Beckett Prize in Irish History
Published in Issue 2 (Summer 1999), News, Volume 7The J.C. Beckett Prize in Irish History will be awarded each year topostgraduate students working in the field of medieval and modern Irishhistory. The first award will be made in 1999.
Applicants for the 1999 prize are invited to submit an essay of12,000-15,000 words based on their dissertation. A medal and prize of£500 will be awarded to the successful applicant; the Four Courts Presswill also offer the prize winner a contract to publish a book based onthe dissertation, if the judges so recommend.
Essays for the 1999 prize should be based on PhD and major MAtheses submitted by 31 March 1999. These essays should reach the Pressby 31 May 1999. The prize will be awarded before 15 October 1999.Essays should be typed, double-spaced, on A4 sheets, one side only,each page to be numbered, unbound, with footnotes or end notes; anIrish Historical Studies-type style is preferred but not essential. Adisc of the text should also be provided in Word format.
With the author’s approval, the Press also intends to publish aselection of the submitted essays in an annual or biannual volume, tobe called Beckett Essays in Irish History.
