Golden jubilees for Donegal Historical Society and Clare Archaeological & Historical Society

This year marks the golden jubilee for the County Donegal HistoricalSociety (Cumann Seanchais Dhún Na nGall). Founded in 1960 by the lateChris McDonagh from Ballymote, County Roscommon, the society is now oneof the largest in the country with over 870 members. The societypublishes the Donegal Annual and throughout the year organisesfunctions, meetings, outings and lectures. The current President isMairéad Dunlevy, the Director of Collins Barracks Museum in Dublin, andthe main jubilee celebrations are planned for later in the year.Membership is worldwide and great care is taken to assist in any waywith enquires from all new comers. Undoubtedly the success of thesociety may, in no small part, be attributed to trojan work of KathleenEmerson, who since 1960 has been Honorary Secretary. History Irelandwould like to congratulate Donegal Historical Society as well as ClareArchaeological & Historical Society who this year are having theirjubilee conference with the same theme as the original conference oftwenty-five years ago.
